Goals of The Coalition for Youth of Lower Merion and Narberth

The Coalition for Youth of Lower Merion and Narberth provides community members with current and updated information about planned community events, is the planning body of the Youth Advisory Council and is a partnership of community agencies and individuals working together to create a safe and healthy environment for our youth.

 

To provide a partnership of community agencies and individuals working together to create

  • A safe and healthy environment for youth
  • To reduce drug and alcohol use among youth
  • To reduce stress among our youth
  • To reduce violence and other risky behaviors among our youths
  • To provide programs and resources to build assets in our children

To be the planning body for the Alliance, an organization between independent and private schools

  • To share resources
  • To coordinate efforts to improve the mental health of students

To be the planning body of the Youth Advisory Council, presently a group of 18 students represented by public and independent high schools that come together to help the Coalition (and in turn community members) to understand current teen issues

  • To guide the YAC to participate in such programs as "Talking Back"
  • To guide the YAC to participate in the annual Transitions forum
  • To guide the YAC to participate in the Battle of the Burbs competition
  • To guide the YAC to spread the words of the Make the Call, Take the Call campaign
  • To guide the YAC to spread the words of the Good Samaritan law

To provide the community members with current and updated information about its planned events

  • To be able to register for events
  • To get feedback after an event
  • To provide answers to questions about events
  • To provide answers to questions about the Coalition
  • To provide resources

  • Make a Joyful Noise -- A Benefit Concert Sat. 27 Apr, 2019 (4:00 pm - 7:00 pm) Community Event A Benefit Concert for Box Lunch and a Book and Heart for Uganda Featuring a multi faith youth choir, mult faith young adult choir, the Three Tenors of Zion, The Hatcher and Muse Singers and JDK (Jazara Morales, Danielle Muse & Kellye Hatcher) This is a free concert sponsored by Saints Memorial Baptist Church of Bryn Mawr. All donations are greatlly appreciated and needed. Light refreshments will be served following the concert.  
  • Deeper Than Our Skins Tue. 7 May, 2019 (6:00 pm - 7:15 pm) Community Event Join us for pizza, conversation and an introduction to our first book --  a graphic novel call The Shadow Hero. Participants get a journal and a copy of the book to keep! Register online at lmls.org or by calling (610) 642-5187. The present is a conversation with the past. A racial-justice forcused discussion group for teens featuring the following books May -- The Shadow Hero June -- Dreaming in Indian July -- The Revolution of Evelyn Serrano August -- Between The World and Me 
  • Fashion and Design Show Sun. 19 May, 2019 (2:30 pm - 4:30 pm) Community Event Teen Learning Community presents the 12th Annual Student Fashion and Design Show featuring Live Music and Refreshments. This event is open to all students from all schools. All proceeds to benefit the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Americ In Memoriam Ora Reed Pierce.
