Our brains are amazing and complex. We'll have a conversation about how substance use can be relatively harmless for some yet for others, can lead to misuse or the disease of addiction.

Kevin McCauley MD will talk about addiction as a disease, rather than the other perceived "choice." "There are very good brain chemistry reasons for the things that addicts go through and do."

Dr. McCauley created the film Pleasure Unwoven and Memo to Self.

Dr. McCauley is the Director of Program Services at New Roads Treatment Center in Provo, Utah and is a graduate of the Medical College of Pennsylvania. After completion of medical school, he joined the Navy and became a Naval Flight Surgeon. After earning his wings at Pensacola, Florida he was assigned to a Marine helicopter squadron. Later he was transferred to Marine F/A-18 Hornet squadron. While working as a flight surgeon he treated pilots with alcohol and drug problems. As a physician, he advocates strongly for the rights of addicts as patients.
